ISO UPDATE
Earlier this summer Wallington F.D. was reviewed for its I.S.O. rating. This rating is to ensure homeowners are getting protection and what kind of insurance prices they should pay for living in a certain fire district or area.  #1 being the best rating you can get and #10 being the worst . This is based on many factors, a few of which are: Manpower, response time to calls, equipment (what is owned and such things as water capacity on trucks and pumping capabilities), and how many firefighters you average on calls.  The list goes on and on but this is just to give you an idea.

Since the last time we were checked for our I.S.O. rating we have been at #6, which is not bad for a small community fire department.  However, it is with great pride that we announce to you that Wallingtong Fire Department has recently received its latest update after the review this summer and we are now at a #4 ISO Rating.  This will help you with your insurance cost to live in the W.F.D. District. The ISO Rating is used by insurance companies to determine your Homeowners Insurance Rate. We were also informed that this rating is the same for some of the paid fire departments in New York . We are very proud of our accomplishments and hope to continue to improve and serve our community. Thank you for your support.

House Fire in Alton / and Rekindle
December 17th, 2007

House in South Sodus burned to ground 12-17-07The call for 12/17/2007 was toned out at about 1pm for “fire in the walls” at the State Route 14 home in Alton Fire Department’s district. Wallington was toned for assistance with Engine-40, Tanker-22 and M-32. Three portable ponds were set up to provide water supply. Alton’s Engine was set up near the back of house & Wallington set up on front side (Old Route 14). Each with hand lines off, they used about 10,000 gallons of water. Thermal Imaging camera was used to check FOR further hot spots. The fire was reported out about 3pm.

A 2nd call for rekindle of same property came in about 5:45pm. Alton was toned out & asked for Wallington’s Tanker & manpower. Upon arrival the home was fully engulfed with flames through the roof at which point Wallington's E-40 was requested with more manpower. In addition, tankers for water supply from Sodus, Sodus Center, Sodus Point, North Rose, Rose, two from Wolcott, Red Creek & Marbletown Fire Department’s were requested. Two ponds were once again set up, one in back of the house the other in the front on Old Route 14. The tankers made 5-7 runs each. Wallington's TA - 22 made 9 total that night, over 27,000 gallons from just TA-22 was supplied. Wallington had the deck gun & a small handline off E-40 from the front, and Alton had several handlines going from their side. Trailer fire at Delyser FarmsWallington had 17 firefighters on scene as well as 24-1, 24-2, & 24-4. A backhoe was called in later in the night to knock down the remains of the structure due to safety concerns. The house had a fire several years back and was not fully repaired so no one was living in it at this time. It had an office used for the Christmas tree sales in the front yard on the residence. Wallington was back in service about 11:30 pm.

Trailer Fire
December 3rd, 2007

Trailer fire at Delyser FarmsAround 10:45 am a call was made to 911 that there was a trailer on fire at the Delyser Farms near Joy Road and Owls Nest Road. Firefighters nearby arrived before any Sodus units and notified dispatch that the trailer was fully involved. ( Code-5 ) Sodus Chief 19-2 requested an Engine and Tanker from Wallington as well as Faiville. Also responding from Sodus Center F.D. was an Ambulance for standby at the scene. Alton F.D and East Williamson F.D. stood by for Wallington and Sodus F.D., as well as Newark F.D. for Fairville F.D. This fire was well off the road and out in the farthest point of Sodus's fire district which is one reason there were so many standby crews. The wind was blowing very strong and aided in the fires quick advance through the trailer. Wallington had 10 firefighters also assisting with the operation at the scene. Trailer was a complete loss. The fire is under investigation at this time. Wallington F.D. went back into service around 3pm......
